  15. and sometimes sexually charged work made him the target of
  16. conservatives and Fundamentalists; of AIDS; in New York City.
  17. In 1989 the National Endowment for the Arts withdrew funding for
  18. the catalog of an AIDS-related art exhibition because of an
  19. essay by Wojnarowicz attacking various public figures. The NEA
  20. later reversed itself.
